CLASSES & CAMPS
CAT offers classes for every level of student regardless of age. Whether this is your first class or you are a veteran CAT performer, we offer challenging, fun and valuable classes. Every class is filled with activities to build confidence and encourage interaction with their peers in a fun learning environment. Monday classes begin August 28th, their Showcase will be November 6th.
Monday Classes 4:15-5:45pm
Class Full – Cat Cubs (Ages 5-6) – Sarah Higbee
This class introduces school aged kids to the fundamentals of music theatre while performing in a safe, encouraging environment. Students will explore movement, music, and storytelling while learning the fundamental skills necessary to move on to youth level classes. This class is a great start for young children to be introduced to theater.
Sing Broadway (Ages 7-8) – Ashley Chaney
This class is for the new student who wants to learn how to sing. Come learn to share your vocal abilities with an audience. Students will be taught the basics of good singing technique, receive training in how to use their voices correctly, and how to have confidence while performing.
Class Full –Beginning Musical Theater (Ages 8-10) – Gina Denson
This musical theater class will take students to a whole new level. Students will gain confidence performing in front of an audience, enhance their singing, dancing and acting skills, and build a repertoire of audition material. Students will learn songs and choreography from popular Broadway shows as well as original musicals. The final class will culminate in a staged performance.
Class Full – Advanced Musical Theater (Ages 13-18) – Sallie Griffin
Come join the class that is for the student who loves to sing, dance and act. Improve your singing, dancing and acting skills and take it to the next level. This course will explore a variety of popular styles used in musical theater today. Capture your audience’s attention from the moment you walk out on stage. Learn how to create stage presence whether you are the lead or a chorus role. Every student will get the opportunity to shine in a musical number and perform in the showcase!

Class Full – Play on Stage (Ages 8-11) – Kelsey Greene
This class is designed to help develop acting skills for up and coming actors and actresses. Today’s musicals require much more than being a strong singer or dancer. This class will cover improve, acting fundamentals, staging, movement and character interpretation. The students will learn a variety of techniques to help them grow and develop as a stage performer. They will also work on a presentation to be performed at the end of session showcase.
Class Full – Acting for the Stage (Ages 10-13)- Sallie Griffin
This class will focus on Acting Techniques for performance. Using improvisation and short scenes, students will learn to make strong character choices, work with objectives and relationships in the creation of original scenes in this fun creative acting class. Beg/Int Jazz (Ages 9-12) – Gina Deson
This class focuses on technique and style through strong technique and sharp movements. This class emphasizes strength and stretch in the warm-up and practices those entities in technique across the floor and routines center floor. The students will be pushed to increase their knowledge of dance technique while focusing on improving their skills in balance, turns, progressions and jumps.
Theater Make-up (Ages 11-18) – Hope Way
Elevate your makeup skills with this makeup artistry class. This class allows students to master beginning/intermediate techniques to help enhance character work onstage. This class will: create a “Face Map” for characters, gain knowledge of tools and specialty makeup product, elevate basic makeup skills for standard makeup, and learn specialty techniques for specialized characters.
Class Full – Newsies Musical Theater Dance (Ages 12-18) – Kelsey Sundman
Let’s Seize the Day! This class will learn a culmination of dances to the music from the famous musical “Newsies”. This high energetic dance class will be focusing on improving the technique of students and pushing them to work harder as performers. Musical theater dance is a place where students will learn jazz dance technique working on balance, stretch, flexibility and work on combinations center floor and across the floor.

Bound for Broadway (Ages 7) – Maddison Rickard
Get ready to be a Musical Theatre Super Star!!! In class we will work on all three important aspects of being successful musical theatre performer – singing, dancing, and acting! We will explore how to be present onstage, play fun theater games and learn to work well with others. Come learn how to be a true triple threat.
Beginning Acting (Ages 8-10) – Caleb Leal
This is a beginning theatre course where you will learn the basic skills and techniques involved for stage acting. You will explore, among other theatrical skills, acting and characterization, pantomime and improvisation, movement, stage terminology and the audition process. You will work on thinking “outside the box” and responding with creative problem solving by articulating your feelings, thoughts and ideas.
Storytelling Through Song (Ages 12-18) – Erin Koshay
This class will focus on the techniques on how to tell a story through singing. In this core voice class students will learn the fundamental concepts and training of the voice. They will also learn proper posture and breathing techniques, phrasing and how to stay on pitch. Activities will include: vocal warm-ups, choral singing as well as solos, and interpretation.
Tuesday Classes 6:00-7:30pm
Class Full – Sing Show Tunes (Ages 8-11) – Ashley Chaney
Expand your vocal and dramatic skills together in this exploration of what it really takes to be a successful musical theatre singer. Working with classic and contemporary Broadway songs, you will learn to connect your vocal skills to the dramatic intention critical to developing confidence as a performer. There will be opportunities for solos, duets and ensemble singing.
Dance With Props (Ages 10-12) – Kelsey Sundman
Broom, cane, umbrella or hat dance is fun no matter where you’re at! This class will not only focus on dance technique but also the technique of dancing with a prop. The students will learn choreography that focuses mostly around a prop. Performing dance onstage is a key element every stage performer needs to learn. Come join this class to gain skills in dancing, performing and working with a prop.
Class Full – Character Development (Ages 12-18) – Beverly Baird
This class will focus on Acting Techniques and Character Development for performance. Using improvisation and short scenes, students will learn to make strong character choices, work with objectives and relationships in the creation of original scenes in this fun creative acting class. CAT Christmas Troupe-Auditioned class (Ages 8-12) – Erin Koshay and Gina Deson
This is an AUDITIONED class! Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 26th at 10am. Please call the office to sign up. Please prepare a 1 min. vocal audition preferably a Christmas song and you may bring music on a cd or ipod. This class will continue two additional weeks beyond showcase to prepare for performances. Additional rehearsals can be added as needed. If cast in the Christmas Troupe the first class day starts on Tuesday, August 29th.
This traveling Christmas Troupe will be learning fun songs, minimal dances and small monologues for this fun high energy show. We will be putting together a Christmas Show with about 6-10 performances between Thanksgiving and Christmas that the kids will take out around the City of Corona. If you are available to perform in this small troupe, come out and audition!

Tap Basics (Ages 8-11) – Erica Johnson
Never taken tap before? Well this is the class for you! This class is an introduction to all the beginning tap steps. If you want to become a tapper then this would be the perfect class for you. You will learn the basic steps; shuffle, flap, time step including learning about rhythm and time which are the key elements of tap. Showcase will be on Tuesday, November 7th.

Wednesday Classes 5:30-7:00pm
Class Full – Beginning/Intermediate Tap (Ages 11-18) – Erica Johnson
Come learn the rhythm of tap! It is an expressive dance form that creates rhythm using your feet. This class will learn the techniques of tap; shuffles, draw backs, pullbacks, but not only that be challenged with difficult beats and rhythms put together in various combinations. This class is for the beginning/intermediate tapper so if you have never taken tap before this is not the class for you. Showcase will be on Tuesday, November 7th.
Wednesday Classes 7:00-8:30pm
Class Full – Intermediate/Advanced Tap (Ages 12-18)– Erica Johnson
Continue to learn the rhythm of tap! It is an expressive dance form that creates rhythm using your feet. This is a fast-paced class focusing on pushing the intermediate/advanced tapper to move faster and push them to continue excelling in their skills. Come ready to jump into the fun-loving dance genre and learn the expressive innovative steps of tap. Showcase will be on Monday, November 6th.
