CAT Classes

CAT offers classes for every level of student regardless of age.  Whether this is your first class or you are a veteran CAT performer, we offer challenging, fun and valuable classes. Every class is filled with activities to build confidence and encourage interaction with their peers in a fun learning environment.

Monday 4:15-5:45pm

Beginning Acting (8-10) Instructor: Hope Way – This is a beginning theatre course where you will learn the basic skills and techniques involved for stage acting. You will explore, among other theatrical skills, acting and characterization, pantomime and improvisation, movement and vocal production, stage terminology and the audition process. You will work on thinking “outside the box” and responding with creative problem solving by articulating your feelings, thoughts and ideas.

Storytelling Thru Dance (10-12) Instructor: Julie Ann Oleson – Come take this fun dance class! Dancing is another way to express words through movement. This class will be focusing on growing in your dance technique and pushing students to further their skills in dance. They will focus on expressing themselves through dance and speaking by moving. Technical aspects that will be worked on are; balance, strength, kicks, pirouettes, progressions and jumps.

FULL – TV Acting (11-14) Instructor: Caleb Leal – What is your favorite TV show? Well this class will focus on scripts and scenes from popular TV acting shows throughout time. We will explore different types of characters through drama, comedy and tragedy that will push the actors to experience acting in new ways. Whether you are building on previous experience or exploring acting for the first time you will learn to create authentic emotion, genuine relationships and bring scenes to life. This class is a great opportunity to stop pretending and start acting!

Advanced Jazz (12-18) Instructor: Kelsey Sundman – Jazz dance is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality. This class will help students interpret and execute moves and steps in their own way. This class will be energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. We will do a thorough warm-up, a series of stretching exercises and isolation movements, across the floor combinations and learn several dance combinations. Come join this fast paced class!

Monday 6:00-7:30pm

Making Faces! (11-18) Instructor: Hope Way – Elevate your makeup skills with this makeup artistry class. This class allows students to master beginning/intermediate techniques to help enhance character work onstage. This class will: create a “Face Map” for characters, gain knowledge of tools and specialty makeup product, elevate basic makeup skills for standard makeup, and learn specialty techniques for specialized characters.

FULL – Seussical Musical Theater (11-14) Instructor: Kelsey Sundman – Come join the class that is for the student who loves to sing, dance and act. Improve your singing, dancing and acting skills and take it to the next level. This course will explore a variety of popular styles used in musical theater today. Capture your audience’s attention from the moment you walk out on stage. Learn how to create stage presence whether you are the lead or a chorus role. Every student will get the opportunity to shine in a musical number and perform in the showcase!

FULL – Social Dance (13-18) Instructor: Robert Lopez – This class is focused on the different styles of social dance. Such as waltz, cha-cha, west coast swing, rumba, lindy- hop & fox trot. This style of dance is primarily done in partners to learn how to work with someone. This will be a fun class for students who have had dance training.

Tuesday Classes 4:15-5:45pm

Cat Cubs (5-6) Instructor: Hayley Higgins – This class introduces school aged kids to the fundamentals of music theatre while performing in a safe, encouraging environment. Students will explore movement, music, and storytelling while learning the fundamental skills necessary to move on to youth level classes. This class is a great start for young children to be introduced to theater.

Beginning Musical Theater (7-9) Instructor: Katie Kosecka – This musical theater class will take students to a whole new level. Students will gain confidence performing in front of an audience, enhance their singing, dancing and acting skills, and build a repertoire of audition material. Students will learn songs and choreography from popular Broadway shows as well as original musicals. The final class will culminate in a staged performance.

Sing Broadway (8-11) Instructor: Erin Koshay – This class is for the new student who wants to learn how to sing. Come learn to share your vocal abilities with an audience. Students will be taught the basics of good singing technique, receive training in how to use their voices correctly, and how to have confidence while performing.

Audition Prep Class (10-13) Instructor: Gina Deson – Always wondering what you could have done better at your audition? In this class you will learn how to select a song that is right for you, introduce yourself, sing a song with confidence and overcome stage fright. Be prepared for any audition, anytime and do it with self- confidence. Learn some of the tricks to help you stand out. Learn to win the hearts of the director and get in the show. Skills to be covered include: song selection; quick choreography; the “do’s and don’ts” of auditioning; audition etiquette.

Tuesday 6:00-7:30pm

Musical in a Box (8-10) Instructor: Hayley Higgins – Come join in on this fun triple threat class that combines the three elements of musical theater: singing, dancing and acting. Explore storytelling, choreography, singing, and character development while performing in a safe, encouraging environment. Class will include warm-ups, group activities, dance routines, theater games, and the showcase performance. Children develop confidence as they get their first glimpse into the joy of the stage!

Becoming a Character (10-12) Instructor: Leah Moore – This class will focus on Acting Techniques for performance. Using improvisation and short scenes, students will learn to make strong character choices, work with objectives and relationships in the creation of original scenes in this fun creative acting class. Students will prepare scene work, break down the beats, analyze characters, and learn techniques for convincing character portrayal.

FULL – CATS Musical Theater Dance (12-18) Instructor: Gina Deson – This musical theater class will take students to a whole new level. Advanced Vocals (12-18) Instructor: Erin Koshay – Learn new contemporary techniques to use your voice such as pop, gospel, a Capella and jazz. Working with contemporary music you will learn to connect your vocal skills to the dramatic intention critical to developing confidence as a performer. This class will push students to develop their voice for performing onstage. There will be opportunities for solos, duets and ensemble singing.

Wednesday Classes 4:15-5:45pm

Students will explore movement, music, and storytelling while learning the fundamental skills necessary to move on to youth level classes. This class is a great start for young children to be introduced to theater.

Singing Stars (7-8) Instructor: Ashley Chaney – Come learn to share your vocal abilities with an audience. This class teaches the basic ways to sound good and look good while you’re performing great music. Students will be taught the basics of good singing technique, receive training in how to use their voices correctly, and how to sing in a group. This class will be singing music from all the famous Movie musicals.

Shakespearean Acting (12-18) Instructor: Caleb Leal – This is a Shakespeare based course where you will learn the first steps to performing classical style theatre. You will explore the different aspects of Shakespearean prose, verse, and structure and how to apply to all other forms of acting. You will work on exploring characters, and acting ‘bigger’ while still creating real characters.

Wednesday 6:00-7:30pm

Triple Threat (9-11) Instructor: Ashley Chaney – Come join in on this fun triple threat class that combines the three elements of musical theater: singing, dancing and acting. Explore storytelling, choreography, singing, and character development while performing in a safe, encouraging environment. Class will include warm-ups, group activities, dance routines, theater games, and the showcase performance. Children develop confidence as they get their first glimpse into the joy of the stage!

FULL – Contemporary Partnering (13-18) Instructor: Hollee Cool – This class will examine an array of styles from Modern-Contemporary to Contemporary-Pop with an exploration of musicality, movement style, dynamic shifts, space, time, spinal mobility, movement initiation, physicality, floor work- identifying correct pathways from moving in and out of the floor with alignment  to help injury prevention, flying through space, exploratory games, and partnering work.

We offer four weeks of summer camps to help every camper develop into a polished performer. Each camp is full of educational, wacky and fun experiences and training to give each camper a memorable experience. Summer 2018 dates to be announced.
